Online Research Whats Legit - TutorNerds

Online Research What’s Legit - TutorNerds Private Orange County Tutor Tips: Online Research: What’s Legit? Private Orange County Tutor Tips: Online Research: What’s Legit? These days the vast majority of High School research is done online. Although this makes life much more convenient and cuts down the amount of time students spend on study, it does present a new set of problems. Students who used tangible sources of information in past generations, such as books and texts, were able to concretely determine which sources were 100% legitimate, with an expert author and reliable supports, and which sources were written by somebody who had no business putting a text in a library. However, todays students will have a harder time determining which sources are good to site or use for a research project and which are unsupported. 1. A balanced source recognizes a counter argument A truly balanced force will recognize a counter argument. This means that although they lean towards option A, they recognize option B (or idea B) as a valid point. On the other hand, authors who completely tear down the opposing opinions without giving any reason or support are writing their own terrible thesis statement. If a student comes across one of these sources, they are probably viewing a personal opinion blog or website. Although theres nothing wrong with personal opinions, without a balanced viewpoint or supporting details, they should never be viewed as fact or cited for research (READ: Tips from an Irvine Academic Tutor: 5 Homework Help Online Tools). 2. The title means a lot In most cases the title is an indication of the legitimacy of a particular source. For instance, Science News Weekly sounds a lot more credible than Joes Super Awesome Science Blog.  Although Joes Super Awesome Science Blog can probably be discounted straight away, it doesnt mean that Science News Weekly is automatically credible. However, it does help students eliminate potential bogus sites right off the bat. 3. A legitimate source always cites their sources Its also important to remember that any real source will also cite their sources. Science and psychology journals will have a long list of sources used as well as a list of studies that were referred to within the article. News magazines will provide information such as dates, names, places, and specific details timely to the issue. If a student is reading about a science experiment with no mention of sources or a news article that is highly generalized and does not refer to a specific event, theyre probably looking at a bogus source or a personal opinion blog. 4. Many respectable sources have been around awhile Students are also encouraged to look at resources that have been around for awhile. Research material from philosophy magazines to art journals to IT articles are generally more credible if they were around prior to the advent of online sources. This isnt to say that newer publications arent entirely legitimate, but if a source has been around for 25 years, it has probably gained respect and a reputation within the academic community (READ: 4 Apps to Help with Concentration). 5. Look at the authors bio for clues If a student thinks they have found a good source, they can further determine its credibility by looking at the author’s bio. If the author is talking about a new cancer treatment and they hold an MD from Yale and have published 50 essays regarding cancer research in respected medical journals, the student has probably found a decent source.  Alternatively, if the author is discussing the same topic but has no work experience or degree in this field, its probably another personal opinion article. Preparing a Study Timetable for going back to school - ALOHA Mind Math

Preparing a Study Timetable for going back to school This very recent article by The Canadian Press quotes UBC Psychology Instructor Catherine Rawn as saying that cramming is not an effective strategy for studying, as it does not help to retain information in the long-term. This highlights the importance of having a study timetable, especially at exam time, and even as a strategy at the beginning of the school term. Here are some tips to keep in mind while preparing a study timetable: Plan an appropriate amount of time for every subject. This need not necessarily be equal for each subject, but might depend on how long you think it would take you to prepare a particular topic. If your strength is English, it might take you less time to study for this subject, so you could put in extra time at something like Spanish or Math. Give yourself time to relax as well. You can plan this depending on what works for you, maybe half an hour of studying and 10-15 minutes of doing something else such as reading a book or going for a jog, before getting down to studying again. Make sure your study time is distributed over the semester well, without just cramming just before the exam. In this way, you only need to factor in some time for revision and you are set for any test or exam that comes up. Back to schoolImage Courtesy:http://www.flickr.com/photos/nocas/12553753 Take inputs from your teachers and family members, especially older siblings about how to plan your study time and learn to manage your time better. Siblings who have been through the same experience just a couple of years before you can really give you some great tips. Do not factor in a large amount of time for studying as school begins. The first weeks back at school may be reasonably free from studying as it takes time to settle into classes and really get into the course work. So plan your time accordingly, with more time given to leisure activities, but these might take a bit more of a back seat once you get into the swing of things. Having a well thought out timetable can really help you approach your schoolwork with more confidence, and also improve your concentration. Another great avenue to help achieve these goals is to join Abacus and English classes at Aloha USA. Please see our website for more details: http://www.aloha-usa.com

Nearing the Edge What You Need to Know About the Fiscal Cliff

Nearing the Edge What You Need to Know About the Fiscal Cliff Photo from Flickr.com by StockMonkeys.com  Why is the impending fiscal cliff causing so much worry among politicians and citizens alike? If the previously agreed-upon tax increases and spending cuts do indeed go into effect at the beginning of 2013, many fear that the U.S. will immediately face another recession. The reason for this is that the Congressional Budget Office estimates that if taxes were increased and spending cut, the GDP would fall by roughly four percent in 2013, causing negative growth, and therefore a recession. However, in this scenario, the deficit as a percentage of the GDP would be cut in half, which many will agree is a definite plus side. Another possible path for avoiding the fiscal cliff involves involves cancelling some (or possibly even all) of the scheduled tax increases and spending cuts, which would only add to the United States already substantial deficit. If the government decided to take this course of action, it is widely thought that America may find itself in a total economic crisis mimicking that of what is currently transpiring in Europe. Can compromise be reached before the beginning of 2013? It seems doubtful, given that compromise has not been the most popular concept in politics as of late. Thomas Kenny agrees, saying that the oncoming fiscal cliff is a concern for investors since the highly partisan nature of the current political environment could make a compromise difficult to reach. The reality of upcoming tax increases and spending cuts isnt an entirely new concept; lawmakers have been aware of it for about three years. But because of the general tension and lack of agreement in Congress, solutions for this problem have not been agreed upon. The main way to solve this impending problem involves bipartisanship, with members of both parties working together. With a decision of this magnitude that needs to be made before 2012 ends, politicians need to roll up their sleeves, lay their party affiliations aside, and engage in a concept that most people are taught in kindergarten compromise.

How to Find Percent Error in Chemistry

How to Find Percent Error in ChemistryIf you are a chemistry student or even someone who has a general knowledge of chemistry, you may well have wondered how to find percent error in chemistry. This type of error can occur if the experiment is performed incorrectly and will create results that are not correct.A simple way to explain what this error is, is to give an example. Let's say that we are using a chemical for testing a certain substance and then we forget to add it to the solution. That substance then takes on a different colour. The problem here is that your apparatus is not the correct one and you've just got a false result. In order to find percent error in chemistry, you need to have the correct apparatus. This may mean you do need to purchase some other apparatus, but the most important thing is that you get the correct one.The first place to look is for an online website that contains the formula for the substance that you are testing. You can use this website to help fi nd out how to find percent error in chemistry. However, the next step is to purchase the formula, which is usually supplied by the university or college that you are studying at. If you cannot find this on the website, then you can order it from the manufacturer.Once you have the formula, the next step is to perform the experiment, and this is where the error comes into play. The experimenter needs to make sure that the right reagent is added to the correct container. This is where you need to understand the mistake that you made and repeat the procedure again. Once you have done this several times, you should see that the results you get are correct. The most common way to find percent error in chemistry is to give the experiment the correct ingredients and then have someone else write down the results. It may be advisable to hold off for a few days, just to make sure that you've really found the solution that you wanted. This is because the results may change slightly after being s tored in the laboratory for a period of time. It may also be advisable to leave the solution on a long enough period so that the concentration of the substance is high enough.By carefully following these steps, you should find how to find percent error in chemistry, which is pretty easy to do. Sometimes, it may take a bit of time to find the right solution but the results will always be right. Just remember that to find percent error in chemistry you need to buy the right reagent.

Elements in Chemistry

Elements in ChemistryIn chemistry, N is the element that's right above Carbon, also known as Nitrogen. N is mostly used as a soft element and is also the one that forms water with oxygen, as well as being the element that gives up nitrogen gas, allowing carbon to become the element that's more commonly found in fuels. To understand the history of the world, it is necessary to know all the elements that have been discovered. At the start of the Neolithic era, the first people discovered that carbon could be turned into oxygen. Later on, the discovery of iron was found, as well as copper. The discovery of iron is very important for later chemistry, as it is the main element that would later become the element that helps us make weapons and other equipment. Copper, and its byproduct, gold, are two other elements that would later be discovered. The P element, however, has just recently been discovered and was used in the early days of the discovery of metalworking, helping people to form t hings like steel and silver. Although it didn't actually become the metal, it was used as a filler substance for metals. As we know, there are different elements in chemistry. There are also different types of elements that are used in different fields. At the same time, there are also different numbers of elements that are used. The number of elements can be up to 10, depending on where it was discovered, although the scientists working on this have gone back and rewritten history so that the first element can be considered to be the earth's. In fact, scientists now believe that everything else we know about came from this earth's element. Scientists have now even claimed that there are things that only this earth has.The history of the field of chemistry has since then only been one history. These discoveries were made over the course of millions of years, and these discoveries lead to the development of everything that we have today. But at the same time, some of these discoveries were also made by outside scientists. For example, the discovery of this earth's element of nitrogen has happened by accident and was unintentional, although others like the discovery of gold and copper. So, since the history of the world is written in chemistry, each element that was discovered has been assigned a different number. The big ones include the earth's element and the six main elements.

Molybdenum and Chemistry

Molybdenum and ChemistryMolybdenum is an essential element that needs to be present in the body in trace amounts so it's important that one maintains a balanced diet. Molybdenum is found in animal and vegetable products but it is most beneficial when it is derived from natural sources. You can get it from oysters, cabbage, wheat, barley, oats, peanuts, beans, whole wheat, and barley.Alpha-Kaline phosphatase is an enzyme that is necessary for producing Molybdenum. It has an anabolic effect on the body. It helps in the utilization of carbohydrates and fats, which also help in the buildup of lactic acid. This lactate is then used as energy for cellular functions. Not many people realize that there are a number of minerals that you need to include in your diet if you want to have a healthy body. In this regard, you will find the list of minerals that are part of Molybdenum -5. Two of the minerals that are in Molybdenum have helped in keeping a balanced diet. They are magnesium and calcium .Magnesium is known to be a natural vasodilator that helps in keeping the blood vessels from being narrowed. This mineral also helps in keeping the cell membranes from becoming inflamed.Calcium is a mineral that is necessary in the formation of red blood cells and provides oxygen. Besides keeping you healthy, calcium is necessary in the development of nerve cells in the brain. The last two minerals that are involved in Molybdenum also have essential amino acids which help in building proteins. Without proteins, you cannot survive. What's more, proteins provide the source of energy that is required for the growth of cells and the maintenance of the brain.Vitamin A is also an important ingredient in Molybdenum. It helps in maintaining healthy skin, eyes, and nails. It is also required to maintain the proper functioning of the thyroid gland.
